HEART OF ENGLAND |
The Heart of England contains many beautiful areas - the Peak District, the Cotswolds, the Chilterns are good examples. The many interesting towns in the region include Stratford-upon-Avon, Cambridge, Gloucester,Telford, Birmingham and Nottingham. South and east of the Midlands the land rolls gently, broken occasionally by escarpments, or ridges, that rarely exceed 1,000 feet (300 m) in elevation. They include the Cotswold Hills of Gloucestershire and the Chiltern Hills, northwest of London. Similar ridges, such as the Cleveland Hills and the Lincolnshire Wolds, appear farther north in North Yorkshire, Humberside,
and Lincolnshire.

EAST ANGLIA |
The region has preserved much of its unspoilt character, rural landscape, architecture and traditions.
The countryside is predominately a low lying and open area, though much of Suffolk and Norfolk are gently rolling hills. It contains a diversity of gentle landscapes - from flat fens (which support intensive arable farming) to chalk downland, heathland, man-made waterways, forest and ancient woodland. The area is remarkable for its
number of accessible public footpaths
making it the ideal place for a walk. The gently rolling countryside means there
are no steep slopes, just rural roads and paths waiting to be explored.

far from a mountain or the sea. There are 498 miles of

highest mountains are in the dark and craggy
Snowdonia range in the
north, and include Snowdon and as you travel south the landscape becomes
much softer, though the hills
remain. In mid Wales there are the Cambrian
Mountains and moving further south The Brecon Beacons.
